As the leader of the Accounting Department, the Controller is a key member of the management team of the company. This position is responsible for all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, payment processing, payroll, and trust disbursements. The Controller will manage and assist in special projects and will be expected to succeed in a team environment and have a general knowledge of the operations within the company.
Essential Job Functions
Directly supervise Accounting staff.
Analyze variances to actual and budget line items within the P&L
Oversee the accounting and reconciliation for fixed assets and cash accounts including operating and trust accounts.
Manage a variety of accounting activities, from implementing control procedures, financial analyses, overseeing accounts payable reports and reconciliations to the general ledger.
Coordinate the monthly and annual closing process to ensure financial statements are complete, accurate and timely
Reconcile general ledger accounts including trust and operating accounts on a monthly basis and prepare all applicable adjusting journal entries
Oversee payroll, reconcile the payroll register to the general ledger and assist in the development of essential reports for managers and supervisors
Coordinate annual audit and provide requested supporting schedules to external auditors
Review invoices for the appropriate coding and classification and monitor capital expenditures.
Assist CFO in preparing annual budgets
Implement and maintain proper internal controls of all accounting functions
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Requires undergraduate degree in Accounting with a minimum of 5 years of accounting experience.
CPA designation preferred.
Must have strong computer skills and be an advance Excel user.
Must be organized, detail oriented, accurate and a self starter.
Must have a good understanding in internal accounting controls and best practices.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and leadership abilities, effective analytical and problem solving skills, with an ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently under deadline pressure.
Must possess excellent communication skills both written and oral
Must have strong people management skills
Knowledge of MAS90 and FAS software a plus
Experience in single audit requirements a plus
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has supervisory responsibility of the Accounts Payable Coordinator, Accounting Specialists and Payroll Coordinator positions within the department.
